Digitalization of Value Chains in the Retail Sector

Project period: 1.5.2023 – 30.04.2025
Project leader: Martina Sproll
Funding: Hans-Böckler-Foundation

Digital restructuring processes are changing the form of global value chains. This project examines their impact on work processes, working conditions, and inequality within retail value chains, as well as the related challenges and strategies for workplace and trade union representation.

In the following podcast, the digital transformation of working conditions at H&M, Zara, and IKEA is explored. All stages of the value chain are addressed—from production in the Global South to retail in Germany—with workers from countries like Bangladesh, India, Spain, and Turkey sharing their international experiences of digitalization.
